Transformers Movie Review: Optimus Prime was Robbed!

“Stay away, lad! That’s Prime’s fight!” — Kup, in the original 1986 Transformers animated movie. I just watched Michael Bay’s Transformers movie at the Gateway Globe Platinum Theater. Believe it or not, it’s even more of an abomination than everyone expected it to be — from jumpy editing to fake graphics to gibberish computerspeak to […]Click here to continue reading "Transformers Movie Review: Optimus Prime was Robbed!"...

You paid 10 bucks to see 30 minutes of sub-par action and one memorable moment. The rest was crap.

Good thing the Globe Platinum Theater’s lazyboy chairs are so comfortable. Otherwise, I’d have asked for my money back.

Skeet, Here’s the thing. Ok you like the movie, but it feels like you can’t accept the fact that other people didn’t. You feel they SHOULD have LOVED this movie. In my review I mentioned serious flaws that cannot be denied. The fact that bay spent so much time on a weak plot . Now when I mention that I have noticed two things from people who loved this movie, 1) they give the excuse that this movie is based on a simple little cartoon and “what do you expect just sit back and enjoy” or 2) We are nitpicking and are critical of things and should just shut up cuz we are in the minority and box office doesn’t lie and blah blah.
Are you going to honestly tell me the 20 minutes used to show the transformers hiding from Sam’s parents to find glasses that holds the balance of the universe while awkwardly stepping on the lawn and breaking dad’s precious things is cinematic gold? Are you going to honestly tell me that spending almost half the movie on some hacker side story only to find out the Goverment knew ALL along a la Independence day is just fine and dandy.
It’s this imposing attitude of those who loved this movie and can’t imagine why others wouldn’t. Those who wallow in mediocrity are the reasons why studios churn out stuff like Ghost Rider and Fantastic Four. Because they DO see box office returns and they figure , why give people more? just cover it up with nice explosions and a few gags here and there and the people will love it.
If WE the critics loved everything that hollywood churned out where would films like Ratatouille and Sicko go. Or movies like Pan’s Labrynth and other films that i’m sure if you saw…if you really paid attention to critics and their opinions and saw these movies that they deemed “quality” then it’ll be like the difference from eating at a 5 star restaurant to eating at Kennedy fried chicken. There is NO denying that transformers had aspects of the film that appealed and I have stated that if this movie was 30 minutes shorted and wasted less time on the lame plot, I would have LIKED the movie instead of what I currently feel for it.
So in conclusion , just to get a little political, The reaction to this film reminds me of how people react for President Bush and bush supporters. Ignore logic and just have a go get em god is with us attitude. If you could admit your precious film actually had flaws then maybe your opinions would be more respected and not viewed as just a common rant.

Ruben, don’t talk like only the TF fans have an attitude. If you read all the postings here, even the ones who hate TF have an attitude too. Well, both sides are bashing at the each other so don’t say that those who like TF wants critics to love it too. Because on the other hand, you critics want those who liked the movie to hate it too. So where’s the difference anyway?
I like the movie, yes, a lot. But I know there’s no movie without flaws. Of course TF has flaws, ALL movies have it. But sometimes, the way the review was written provokes people to react in a very uncivilized manner.
Then of course, critics battles back. And then back and back and the endless debate goes on and on.
As I have posted before, and Blahblah said, I’m on of the 85% of females who loved the movie. I don’t deny that. Though I’m no TF fan, the movie was great that I’ve seen it twice. Now Micheal Bay can’t please everyone. Actually, I didn’t like Pearl Harbor, for starters. It’s just a matter of preference, really. So if Mike’s review garnered a lot of hatred towards him, it’s because his review was biased. If you want to post something on the internet to let everyone read, you might as well post a balanced review. I’ve tried reading reviews from other sites and some hate it but they don’t use strong words like ugly robot pet owners, etc. I just find Mike’s blog very provoking to those who really dig the movie.
As for those provoked, you can’t have Mike love the movie because he has his mind set already, no amount of rethinking and repeating the movie will ever change his mind because obviously, the guy’s one-track minded. And he loves quoting other critics by pasting in articles from other sites, which i find so childish, like he wants to have people to back him up.
One thing I notice with critics (in the internet) is that they hate Michael Bay. Some praised him but write tidbits lilke “he rejected it at first because he wouldn’t want to do a movie based on toys.”
    Sigh. boys will be boys.

Im sorry but in terms of readability the above comment is maybe the worst Ive ever come across. That being said, she makes some very valid points that I will not attempt to reinforce because she argues them very well. However, I do have a few thoughts. To Ruben: You didnt like the scene with the Autobots hiding from Sam’s parents? Despite its overly simplistic nature, I thought it was incredibly funny. Youre probably gonna retort that the comedy played to only dumb people who laugh because the big robot’s are hiding even though theyre so big, but I thought it was hilarious because of the ridiculous aspect of the whole thing. I mean, even if Sam’s parents couldnt see them, surely there was one neighbor looking out of his window who could see 4 giant robots. Now please pay attention.Im about to say something important before you claim that I just proved your point. Ridiculous is good. We (by we i mean normal people without sticks up their butts) like ridiculous. You mention Pan’s labyrinth, which by the way was a great movie. there was a half devil half tree thing and a monster with hands in his eyes. what im getting at is that ridiculousness is not a negative attribute when it contributes to the overall enjoyment of the audience. And finally, after my off-topic rant, I would like to leave you with one last pearl of wisdom: The quality of a movie is a very very relative thing. The enjoyment one recieves from a movie is based mostly on ones expectations about the nature of the movie. I think critics are important in this capacity in that they put some of that expectation into people. so I will ask Mike Abundo: if you are truly a critic, please do these things for me: do not spoil the movie for your readers. They read you not to know the story but to find out whether or not they are actually going to see the telling of this story on a big screen. Also, please do not hold grudges against directors for their past works. i hated pearl harbor but i loved Transformers. And finally, do not criticize a movie for petty things like what you find is an overly human aspect to the autobots. you claim that by making the interact with humans bay made them weak and reduced their greatness. but I ask you: isnt that exactly what makes autobots and especially Optimus Prime so good? Their ability to empathize with and help a completely inferior race? I feel like all you wanted was rock em sockem robots on cybertron with no story and just fighting. I think the humans in the movie not only play their parts well but also help enhance optimus prime. They are the human reflections of the goodness in Prime that is his greatest strength. It is this goodness, Prime’s greatness strength, that overpowers Megatron in the end. prime defeats his rival with his love for the humans and the teamwork that is forged by it. Mike, to me you sound a lot like Megatron, but hopefully im wrong.
