There is no such thing as PROFESSIONAL COSPLAYER……….. Tanga ka ba? Nagtatanga-tangahan o talagang tanga ka?
Arisa Mizuhara is a professsional cosplayer. Yaya Han is a professional cosplayer. Francesca Dani is a professional cosplayer. The girls in the following video are professional cosplayers.
According to Channel News Asia, Alodia Gosiengfiao is a professional cosplayer.
As you can see from these examples, professional cosplayers practice their trade all over the world. 🙂
Yes, there are profiessional cosplayers. Not in the Philippines, but here in the US they invite influential cosplayers from the cosplay scene and PAY THEM to show up and participate in the convention.
Professional cosplayers in Japan make up to £75,000 ($119,805) per year.
Oh hey Mike, I’m linking to this story on Japanator about Alodia’s involvement with the new WoW movie.
here it is: http://www.japanator.com/cosplay-goddess-alodia-to-be-in-world-of-warcraft-movie-15945.phtml
Thanks for the link, Red! Alodia’s a longtime gamer who used to play World of Warcraft. She’s even cosplayed professionally for game publishers.
By casting Alodia in the Warcraft movie, Legendary Pictures would do what Animax did when they recruited her as their anime VJ: hire a fan to engage fans.
CHIENNA FILOMENO IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL COSPLAYER\, MIND YOU. SHE ONLY ATTENDS CONVENTION IN WEARING CIVILIAN CLOTHES. THINK FIRST BEFORE JUDGING HER AS A PROFESSIONAL COSPLAYER.
Actually, Chienna has cosplayed professionally for Animax. 🙂
I don’t see how performing publicly and on media automatically makes one professional.
Mind you, even the ever talented Francesca Dani has never claimed that she is a professional cosplay. It is only you and her fans who name them such but technically speaking, no they are not professionals less they took up formal education/training for it. Nevertheless, Dani is definitely at the top of her game.
I guess Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates aren’t professional programmers either, since neither has a computer science degree. Facebook and Microsoft must be purely amateur undertakings.
That’s because they are purely talented in their fields. But cosplay? Is it about popularity? I think it’s more on the effort. On the number of costumes made. On how well the cosplayer acts like the character she is portraying.
I agree. Call it talent if she’s the one making her costumes.
I prefer to call her PRETTY and MODEL MATERIAL. Aside from that, nothing more.
