AMDG Acquires SEA License for Lineage II
After almost a year of courtship, South Korean game development giant NCsoft and Philippine publisher Asian Media Development Group have closed a $5.5-M deal to distribute Lineage II not just in the Philippines, but across Southeast Asia.
The exclusive $5.5-million marketing and distribution deal with the South Korean company marks the first time that NCsoft has signed a non-subsidiary to distribute its game. It will also be the first time for AMDG to expand its operations outside the Philippines.
In an interview with hackenslash, AMDG chief operating officer Ronald Allan Aquino said that under the partnership, all NCsoft products, primarily Lineage II, would be solely distributed in the region, which will start in the Philippines, followed by Singapore and Malaysia.
“While we will distribute Lineage II in the Philippines, we’ll be looking for partners who will distribute it in other countries,” Aquino said.
Likewise, Aquino said they are preparing the buildup of their server facilities in the Philippines to host the local Lineage II players.
“We’ll be launching the game in the next half of the year, simultaneously in the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia,” Aquino said.
Lineage II, including its predecessor Lineage I, is a major success among the massively online game triple-A titles that have come out of South Korea, with an estimated 14 million subscribers globally. It is currently being played in Taiwan, Japan, China, Thailand, and the United States, among others.
Asian Media Development Group (AMDG) locally distributes one of my favorite games: NCsoft’s Guild Wars. They powered through weak initial Philippine sales of Guild Wars Prophecies, reaping dividends when slow-burn word of mouth sold out Guild Wars Nightfall over a year later. The four-year-old Philippine online game market is flooded with smaller titles; AMDG is betting we’re ready for bigger brands. In terms of global subscriptions and recognition, the Lineage series is right up there with World of Warcraft; this deal brings the Philippines one step closer to WoW.
The only other MMORPG sequel announced for the Philippines this year is Ragnarok 2, and I sincerely doubt that deal went anywhere near $5.5 million. This Lineage II deal is probably the biggest in Philippine online gaming history.
Personally, I’ve been waiting for Lineage II to come to the Philippines since its stunning visuals first caught my eye two years ago. I’m definitely putting some Xfire hours into this one.

Excuse me sir, but may i ask WHEN will the lineage II game released in the philippines. I’ve been playing it for a year in a private server and it has been the best MMORPG game i ever seen. I think it’s much better than WoW in some aspects. Also may i ask if amdg and ncsoft release lineage II here in the philippines, will they start at chronicle 1, prelude or something?
They say second half of ‘07. I’m not sure which chronicle they’ll start with.

Almost every MMO article I’ve read always compare “this MMO” to “WOW” and its been like that ever since WOW came out in November of 2004

Publishers bid not only with their money, but with their credibility. L2 will give AMDG additional credibility to bid for WoW, the same way Guild Wars gave them the credibility to successfully bid for L2.
So you mean, amdg makes lineage2 as a bridge for them to bid for WoW? wow..
They already have their eyes on WoW, JawBone. Successfully managing L2 in the Philippines will only boost their bid.

@Orlandu, can i answer your question? I think you mean “electronic load” for the game not “fees”. :p And yeah maybe about 90% that it will have e-load for players to play this game, mostly because they’ll be using the official lineage2 game not the private servers with no load.:( Wish im wrong though.

I dont think those kind of bots will work at the philippine lineage2 server, cause i think amdg would start lineage2 from the beginning chronicle (may be the prelude) so as to layout the story of lineage.. thus the bots at the net for newer versions would not work..(i hear they call it l2walker or something :-p)

I’ve been playing Lineage 2 for some time now. I want to comment on one particular question in the video internview. if there is still a market for this game. the answer is in the game itself. i have played a lot of other mmo games. by far Lineage is the most intense, the most electrifying game i have played. this game was catered towards pvp (player vs player) style of playing. there is so much content on this game compared to other mmo’s. i think if the publishers for the philippines can only handle it well and make it fairly affordable, Lineage has the potential to dominate the mmo market. I will be watching how they do things. I want to play in this new server if they make a good job setting things up.
i wish u the best AMDG , just do a good job and be fair, and we will be there to play…
suggestion, i believe before u want to put servers online and let people play, it is necesary to study what is already out there (other servers) and learn what “worked” for those servers and integrate it in ur plan. best chance of success there. i think if u go ahead and make your servers only x1 exp and no npc buffers. the game will be boring for a long time. there are things u need to address if u want to make the game interesting at start. there is a sweat spot on this game. but you wont get to that point if u do not learn from other servers.
WOW is a good game, very successful. but i would not put lineage2 down just like that. i think lineage2 can equal or even outdo WOW in a lot of things. maybe not in popularity. but lineage2 is’nt boring at all, maybe its boring cause u didnt play it too well or something. hell, lineage 2 has some of the thoughest Boss’s in any mmo

Yeah, like jerome i have played lineage2 in some private servers(Sorry im quite poor and i can’t afford the official :p). If i could point out one specific private server i would like to name dragon-network. There they have servers that is x1 x5 x10 x15 x100 so players get to pick where they really want to play but i recommend playing on x15 basically x1-x15 is just the same and i can’t find so much difference except more drops of course. And about WOW yeah i agree that lineage can’t be compared to WOW or vice-versa.

i’ve been waiting for this game to come to the Philippines for almost 2 years now since i played it on the official Korean server. Hopefully AMDG would be start it with the prelude so that Pinoy players would truly appreciate the depth of this game. Oh yeah, anybody knows when this game would be officially released?
I have a friend whose workin’ at amdg said that l2 should be released at about this May/June cause there are so many online games wanting to compete with lineage2’s release……………………

i don’t think “WoW” is the best b/cuz i try it and “Lineage2 ” Both in Private server, WoW is for KIDS i guess (no offense)unlike in Lineage2 all was Pro and Legit player, not including the other player using bot.L2 is more than just a game dude as far as i can say…=P
We have been playing L2 for more than a year now from C1 to C4(our private server is still C4 :P) and have tried playing WoW. WoW is for kids with cartoony graphics and gay pvp system. And L2 it is more catered to serious and matured/hardcore players.

Anyone calling WoW for kids doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Roll on a mature server get your character to 70 and try some end game raiding. Trust me, the planning and logistics needed to do a 25-40 man raid instance, capping off with an hour long boss battle is not for the faint of heart.

sana nga paps walang mag bot d2 ang baduy nun, pero i think hindi nman hahayaan ng AMDG yun…sana
bot will not work only if the l2 philippines will have anti-bot system that can stop like the auto craft, auto buff, auto login when server got disconnected and other that u can set, but u can still use bot program like u can see the HP of the other players becoz the game guard of lineage2 cant detect the bot program. In official server they cant stop players using bot programs. i think its hard to detect the players who uses bot

meron ako alam na server meron sila anti-hacking chuba hehe. kc yung owner asked us to test a hack or bot/exploit then inde gumana. tsaka po meron ata sya acquired server security. im not sure about their term kc once na gumamit na ng mga walker and the like, meron magpop-up message na “admins have been informed theat you blan blah” so instant IP ban na un.hehe

Shack News and the Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo are reporting that sourcecode for the MMOG Lineage III may have been stolen. As the third Massively Multiplayer game in a huge-selling South Korean series released by publisher NCSoft, over a billion dollars may be lost as a result of this theft.
“The Seoul Metropolitan Police said Wednesday that seven former NCsoft employees are suspected of having sold the technology to a major Japanese game company. The seven left the Korean firm in February and allowed the Japanese company to review the software during a job interview. Police believe that the technology might have been copied during the demonstration.”

hahaha at last meron na d2.. ang problema nga lang afford kya ng mga pinoy ang l2 d2? ive been playing l2 since 2004 from c1 to present and ang saya i wonder how filipinos will react to the game system… i really liked lineage2 than WoW its more realistic i would say…
nga pla d basta basta ang lineage 2 you have to craft or hunt your own weapons and armours… its not easy… you must have a crafter to do that..

yeah that’s the same thing me and my friend were arguing about..whats better lineage2 or WoW..i personally choose l2 think that’s for serious gamers set at an era of castles, dungeons, dragons…lol,imo WoW is fun..funny..hahah(no offense WoW enthusiasts…)^^

you guys are right para sakin mas astig parin L2 kht hack and slash lng. yung nag papaganda sa L2 yung seige war, mounts, clan skills at yung game play, sabi nga nila sa mga ibang forums this game is for clan or party user. mas less sa solo game
atleast double purpose dali na mag pa lvl because of the party dadami pa friends mo in-game…tama bako dun?

yup… i had been playing the official for a quite sometime now and its really fun having friends across US other than my hometown my friends liked the way i used my bishop(a class in L2) coz when we PK or PvP they never die… i wonder if i’ll make a Bishop, a Artisan, a Scavenger or a Prophet… hmm… just for adena purposes then i’ll make a TH… ^^ to pawn players..
and one thing mas maganda ang L2 kaysa sa WoW coz they got a yearly patch/installment for the game di tulad ng WoW nakakadalawa pa lang sila and the game interface is not user friendly…
Actually i’ve tried WoW on a private server..it’s fun but not quite serious about pvp’ing not like lineage but i like the currency in WoW…makes the game a lot more harder.When it comes to sieges i could say that in lineage have a medieval kind of feeling while in WoW like a fairy tale only a bit more serious…

Hey mike, do you have any source to when open/close beta be starting? if yes, when will the date be? Currently I saw on this site ( http://news.mmosite.com/content/2007-03-21/20070321222114199,1.shtml ) that it will be an open beta, but in amdg site they said it will be a close beta for lineage 2 partner cafes. The wait is really killing people~ xD
You know they announced it the be beta in June, and now its already June but there is no news or whatsoever.

i think u can’t run patch frm private L2 servers in L2Sea client. better get international (Korean/North American client to run private server patch) kktnxbai =)

Please dont allow bots on the this server, it will ruin the game. me and my friends have been playing this game for like a month now, and ive reported a lot of bots, but 5 petitions for reporting are not enough and besides if you ban them they will just create another account. why not make a gameguard like the mmo game RF has, it tottaly blocks all kind of 3rd party program. I hope you can fix this bot problem early. It tottaly ruins the excitement for us, wanting to be one of the high levels. Thinking your competitor are just bots.

low rate/s especially in L2 is boring lalo na sa mga taong walang patience.hehe kng ayaw mo sa retail magprivate server ka marami dyan u can choose as low ar 1x to 5000x i think pero mas boring na sa very high rates. choose bet. 25-60x rates exciting dun at depende na din sa server yan.hehe

gusto ko lng po malaman kung kelan aang release ng kamael sa l2 sea..kasi po kailangan ko ng update para mas malakas na ung mga cubics ng warlock ko hahaha…tinigil ko ung warlock ko kasi ang boring na po nung grind hehee…sana kamael na para back to being a warlock na ako hehe…..

Dont waste your money on this game it is the worst game i have ever seen and im not kidding. PvP is grossly unballanced. quests in places you cant get to,very poor use of walk mesh and a wastful useage of textures and such makes the game very jerky and laggy on even the best computers.
Quests are boring and drag on forever making you run all over the world to gather items only to finish that and be stuck doing another quest again of the same kind. Leaving a clan to join another is also a nightmare you have to wait 7 DAYS!! to be able to join another clan.
In my opinion this is the worst MMO i have ever seen Nc soft has gone way to overbord on most thins but mainly quests are the worst i have ever seen and have literally turned me off of doing quests in ANYGAME (yes its that bad). I hear people say “best mmo ever” they obviously are working for NCSOFT or have never played anything else but L2.
I would strongly advise that you dont pay for this game. It is a waste of money and a watse of time. on an end note i have noticed this game is designed to make everything LONG and drawn out so that you will play and PAY longer.
HOW NCSOFT GETS MORE MONEY FROM YOU
#1- 7 day wait to leave/join a clan
#2- clan leader has to wait 7 days before he can disband a clan.
#3- Horrible and almost mind numbing grinding quests that go on forever and have you collecting parts for days if not weeks.
#4- x1 rates also make it mind numbingly slow.
#5- LVL’ing is a nightmare the grind is the worst i have ever seen.
**END NOTE
I strongly recomend as i have had a chr lvl 80 in lineage not to get this game or atleast NOT to pay for this game.This game will suck the life right out of you very poor quests and very poor pvp (unbalanced badly)

If you wanna play in a private server check out http://www.L2tritan.com they got High Rate Server - 50x:50x:200x:5x:5x - 100% Interlude Official. And on Low rate at 7x on Kamael Test server. Good community so far, may not be in the top spots of gamesite200 but still its good.
