Alodia Cosplays Rei from Evangelion

At the end of the iconic sci-fi anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rei Ayanami effectively becomes a goddess. That’s why it’s only fitting that Filipina cosplay queen Alodia Gosiengfiao should portray Rei. Of course, Alodia’s known for her cheery and bubbly personality, so she reinterpreted the normally emotionless Rei with a personal twist: she cosplayed Rei as a cute catgirl.

Angels and Catgirls

More specifically, Alodia cosplayed the Grimrock Mix figurine version of Rei, which sports cat-ear shaped hairclips. The embryonic form of the first angel, progenitor to all the baddies in Evangelion, curls around Rei’s ankle like an adorable little pet.

Alodia’s catgirl Rei cosplay made its first appearance at the 2010 Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Brisbane, where she served as a special guest judge for Australia’s Madman National Cosplay Championship. Check out these photos from Alodia’s fellow Filipina cosplayer Haidee Lapuz.

Must Love Cosplay

During her panel at Supanova, Alodia revealed her distaste for guys who hate cosplay. Remember, guys: if you really love a geek girl, you’ll accept all of her geekiness — even if that geekiness includes a passion for dressing up as cartoon characters.

I don’t know if ‘goddess’ is a good word to describe Rei in the End of Eva. She kind of killed us all and caused most of us nightmares– effectively.

personally, I really don’t like cosplay. What I like (and appreciate) is Alodia’s PASSION for cosplaying. Is that ok with her?
