Google Chrome Needs More Desktop Testing
Google Chrome is barely a day into beta, so I don’t expect it to be perfect. I do, however, expect it to run. I’m sure Chrome runs Web apps like lightning, with its process isolation and V8 JavaScript engine. Google seems to have forgotten, however, that while Chrome runs Web apps, it still runs on […]Click here to continue reading "Google Chrome Needs More Desktop Testing"...Google Chrome Needs More Desktop Testing

perhaps mentioning some info on the problem you are encountering (error messages, lack of error messages, info on event viewer) as well as the particular version of windows you are using might help . crowd sourcing 😉
Enterprises won’t be rushing to install Google Chrome. If you run an enterprise, stability and security are your top priorities. I doubt that any enterprise systems administrator in his right mind would push a newly released, untested browser in beta to any of its users even if it is from Google 🙂
I managed to install it just fine this morning
inside a windows xp virtual machine.

I didn’t encounter any problems, in fact, I kind of appreciate the fact that I didn’t have to download and double click a file to install it.
So do you get an error message of some sort ?
You failed to mention what version of windows you were on. Xp/Vista ?
Were you downloading it with IE or Firefox ?
If you were downloading with Firefox, do you happen to have extensions that speed up or manage your downloads ? Try turning them off if you do.
Before trying again, try clearing your cache and offline files if any.
Perhaps, instead of assuming that Google didn’t test Chrome on your particular desktop environment and bitching about the cloud and the desktop, you can post more information about your set up and the specifics of your problems so that someone, anyone (especially the google engineers) will have the means to help you 🙂
No error message, the thing just won’t run. I’m running Windows XP SP3, and I downloaded Chrome via Firefox with no download managers.
I even tried using Chrome’s executable downloader. Still no dice.
Looks like the windows xp I am using is only on XP2.
You may want to try checking the Event Viewer for errors. Right click on My Computer and click Manage to launch your administrative console.
You should see Event Viewer. Try checking the Application and System logs for possible clues.
I hope you get to try it soon.
Hmm….very strange. I got it installed and working without any problems on both my XP SP2 powered desktop and Vista-run laptop.
I’m using it as my default web browser since this morning and I must say I’m quite impressed.
Hope you get Chrome working on your machine real soon, I’m sure you’d enjoy using it as well.
