Philippine Weather Bureau: Useless

Not only does the Philippine weather bureau rely on recycled, free, public, compiled, visualized information available in any Web browser, information actually meant for Guam. They use the Yahoo toolbar, and don’t even bother to hide it for public photos.

If any Filipino can visually check the path of any storm in any Web browser, using information not obtained by their weather bureau, what are we paying these n00bs for? It certainly isn’t for smart presentation.

The irony here is that the Philippine weather bureau is called “Pagasa”, which is Filipino for “hope”. Looks pretty hopeless to me.

You know what, you don’t even have the slightest idea of what you’re all talking about. Shame on you on how you talk about the people of PAGASA (it’s not
spelled as Pagasa). My father’s a forecaster and he really works hard day and night and even on Saturdays just to give the public the most accurate and latest weather bulletin. He even stays in the office for a week if he has to especially if there’s a typhoon. So don’t you dare tell them that they’re useless. Tell me, have you done anything for the country that we can really be proud of? Well, I shouldn’t be surprised after all because we Filipinos are damn good in pointing fingers at someone’s fault. Right? Just think about it, and maybe you’ll be enlightened.

You only got your big mouth and nothing else. What is the big deal with a Yahoo toolbar? Hope you contribute more to the country than these weathermen before you say something.

I really love to vomit in your face!

Claude, Maybe your dad is a good man and works hard.

But PAGASA website is really a joke. For instance the forecast page consists of just two paragraphs and they divide the Philippines into about three or four regions. So they say for instance Eastern Visayas weather will be rainy and possible thunderstorms. Eastern Visayas stretches all the way from Northern tip of Samar to Southern tip of Leyte. Their generalized weather forecast is seldom accurate as even Tacloban weather (North part Leyte) is seldom anything near that of Maasin in the south of the island.

On the website the show a satellite image of the rain and give it a recent time and date under the thumbnail. But when you click on the thumbnail image you see it is not what it says. This afternoon’s image is the same as two days ago. Tonight it wont even open as their are yet more problems with he websites javascript.

PAGASA should be desbanded and new organization(s) formed. The webmaster should certainly not be re-hired, and maybe we could put your father in charge of a new weather only dedicated organization as he seems to be the only one who does anything there.
