HotForWords Unfazed by YouTube Changes

HotForWords

Philologist Marina “HotForWords” Orlova, a very successful partner in YouTube’s revenue-sharing program, offers an interesting viewpoint on recent and upcoming changes to YouTube. She seems completely unfazed by big studios taking over the front page of the world’s biggest video-sharing site. In fact, she seems to welcome the idea.

Eventually, over time, the advertisers will hopefully get comfortable with some of the user-generated content and start advertising on that as well… and then, finally, advertisers will realize that users don’t attach advertisers to user-generated content and they will advertise on all the content.

So as far as I’m concerned, I want YouTube to stick around and if they need to bring in some TV shows to help fund the thing? That’s fine by me! I know that user-generated content is THE REASON why YouTube is successful, and the people at YouTube and Google know that as well.

I’d really like to share Marina’s optimism. I’d like to believe the people at YouTube know that, while Short Head videos bring in advertisers, Long Tail videos bring in audiences. I just hope advertisers see reason before YouTube loses its raison d’etre.
