Filipina college student Tracy Isabel Borres recently interacted with the indigenous Filipino Aeta tribe on an Ateneo de Manila University field trip. just another spoiled girl, no different from those walking around rockwell on any given day. It doesn’t matter what school she is from, a lot of people just like to hate to the Ateneo, but really, let’s stop berrating the girl for blogging her yucks and eews. There is no need to turn this into a social commentary on how kids are these days because again, a walk through Rockwell with kids and their 100-thousand peso bags already paint a clear picture of the reality of elitism in this country.
Moral of the story: always remember Janthina Fong and Tracy Borres when you blog.
why was i expecting a more reasonable apology than “it was only meant for my friends?”
i guess wisdom comes with age. bata pa siya and being the optimist that i am, i just hope she attains a certain level of maturity after all this.
personally,i don’t agree with her order to focus on real issues. apparently, she has no idea what real issues are. her words ARE real issues because they are offensive to real people. plus there should be no expectation of privacy in the internet. there’s a lesson for each of us in this instance… bahala na tayo anong lesson ang makukuha natin, whether it be to watch out for friends who leak your blogs, privacy over the internet, the line between humor and offensiveness or a little tact perhaps.
i hope you don’t mind if i also post this on my blog, giving credit to you, of course.
Go ahead, Nic. Creative Commons. 🙂
Not even sorry for what she said- only that it was meant for her friends to read. Well honey, first- what you put in cyberspace is prone for the world to read, doesn’t your Ah-teh-ney-ah level intelligence know that? And secondly, a bigot in private is still a bigot. You are an ignorant prejudicial racist and if this is the type of product your school is producing nowadays, then the Jesuits have already failed. Ad maiorem Dei Gloriam indeed! Pweh!
at least this whole immersion experience should serve as one good lesson to her in a lot of ways – from culture to blogging to who are her friends on he list hehehe, marocharim has a really nice write up as well:
