I just got this threatening comment from Ryan Cleary alias “ViraL”, one of the the three hackers accused of taking down 4chan with a DDoS attack. World record? are you fucking retarded? 70gbps is nothing to effect the backbone, only the datacenter that its in. Any who, I’d suggest complying.
Also @ felony: no, DDoS is not, the actual “intrusion” to the infected systems is illegal, and the way we handle it (read: rfi’s) is not illegal whatsoever. Enjoy your DDoS whenever I feel like it.

  2. Man, that guy is either an outrageous braggart, brutally honest, or really stupid.

if you manage to pull off a 70gbps DDoS, then it is indeed up there with DDoS attacks from some of the biggest criminal cybergroups on the planet. Considering you seem to have left most of your personal info sitting on Skype (at least thats how people claim they grabbed it) I don’t think you could be put into that category.

Oh, and DDoS attacks on that scale *could* have a noticable impact on the backbone. But then I think I’d rather trust Jose Nazarios opinion on the subject than a wannabe script kiddy.

“Also @ felony: no, DDoS is not (illegal)”

Is this guy stupid or something? Of course DDoS is illegal, that’s why people get arrested for it all the time. Threatening DDoS when your name & address are all over the net is insane.

Oh, and before this kid comes back claiming “Its not”, most countries don’t have a specific law for it because it tends to fall under their computer acts and regulations in any case so there isn’t much point drafting a specific law (eg in the US its illegal under 12 different statutes with no specific law for DDoS itself).

But even so, let’s highlight his complete ignorance of the law with regards supposed non-illegality of DDoS attacks by pointing out its now illegal with a *specific* law in a number of countries including Sweden, and even the UK has created a law for it (previously it fell under the Computer Misuse Act). Aren’t you in the UK? Enjoy your five to ten years.
