You’re Under Arrest: Full Throttle

Those MTV-ized Charlie’s Angels ain’t got nothin’ on these girls. The ridiculously overqualified traffic cop babes of anime are back in You’re Under Arrest: Full Throttle. The cerebral Miyuki Kobayakawa returns from US forensics training (cue CSI theme), while the physical Natsumi Tsujimoto returns from JSDF ranger training. These babes are a rare breed in anime: genuine role models for girls, genuine eye candy for boys.

You have to wonder why these girls are still traffic cops. Perhaps it’s to preserve the slice-of-life storytelling that’s become the hallmark of the franchise.

That relaxed pacing only accentuates the action sequences. Immediately fulfilling the promise of the new series title, episode one kicks off with a high-speed Yakuza car chase, finishing off with one of the duo’s signature moves. As added fanservice, the ending sequence features tasteful yuri overtones. The girls have definitely earned their way back to my watch list.
