inaccurate: skin is not dark enough to be Fran. Gown variation to her standard fighting suit lack convincing details. Please have the stylist brush the wig before taking photographs. Eyebrows, though notably gray, lacks proper styling. Inaccurate eye color too.
lacks effort: Dark eyebrows do not match Chii’s blond hair. Ear sensors need upgrading: it has a scratchy, damaged surface. Apron needs fresh iron pressing. Flat gown does not match buff shoes. Shoes for this sort of textile should be polished leather.
her “Gothic lolita cosplay” fits better under the category of “school girl” for lack of canonical EGL details like simulated pale skin, darkened eye makeup, lace frills, leather-modified accessories, etc.
And why were the same shoes worn for both Chii and “gothic lolita” ? leather lace-ups would be more appropriate.
as for her cosplay of fran -> she didn’t do any justice. the first cosplayer of fran is much better. she’s too thin for the character. fran has a natural tan color, which the person in the photography certainly lacks. her costume lacks the arms, leg and foot armors which is a vital part of the costume — unless of course she didn’t do it to catch male attention (might as well open your legs to the camera sweetie….) the wig is not good either. it’s too shaggy and awful. someone should have brushed it before being worn. BUT it has the right color. And isn’t fran’s hair supposed to be tied in a ponytail style?
cosplay of chii -> i believe, technically, chii’s eyebrows is black, so i guess that’s accurate enough. but her 1st pose gives me the chills. her smile is not INNOCENT enough and reminds me of a bar girl showing of her panties to everyone for the chance to get someone to bed with. chii is supposed to be an innocent robot.
schoolgirl -> can someone post a full version of her schoolgirl outfit? and what does “1” mean? O_o
gothic lolita cosplay -> lacks laces, heavy makeup, right shoes. it isn’t really gothic if you ask me. she should’ve tried reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_lolita before cosplay a gothic lolita.
Hi Mike! It was indeed a pleasure meeting you and Jerry. Hope we have another but bigger cosplay photoshoot in the near future!
Cheers!
Eric
It was an honor to meet the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards’ Photoblogger of the Year. I look forward to more of your great ideas in future shoots, Eric. 🙂
I’m going to comment on the costumes and shots individually. ^_^
Fran – I’m not a gamer, so I just searched for Fran’s pictures on the internet; sorry if I’m judging the wrong type of costume.
The arm and leg accessories (or whatever they’re called) are absent on both pictures; the headdress lacks detail too, but the bunny ears were done quite well.
The ponytail is too low (but then again, it’s hard to make a decent high ponytail on a wig) and the wig itself doesn’t look well-maintained.
Overall, I think that she shouldn’t have worn that costume.
Additional comments: her face on the first picture bothered me; I noticed that the area around her eyes (from the eyebrows until the top of her cheekbones) is considerably lighter than the rest of her face.
Chii – I like the costume; it’s very accurate (at least from what I remember in the series). Her smile looks too forced in the first picture, and it’s like she’s leering at the camera instead of smiling at it.
The second picture shows the damaged parts of the ears; the cracks are visible. I like the pose (it’s very Chii in nature), but her eyes lack expression.
Schoolgirl – whoever took those pictures more or less knew how to take a good shot… I like the outfit, but the hat seems out of place on the first picture; must be the awkward contrast of the hair color and hat color.
I do not have complaints for the second picture; it’s a rather good shot.
Additional comments: Jerry Polence looks more like a uni student than a highschooler, and the term “schoolgirl” is usually for highschoolers or younger.
Gothic Lolita – I think this is a miscategory; it’s more of an angsty schoolgirl than a gothic Lolita. If it were a gothic lolita, the costume wouldn’t look so simple; it would have more frills (her outfit doesn’t have any at all) or would at least look poofier (for lack of a better term), the stockings would either be fishnet or leggings (or thigh-high socks), but the Mary Janes would pass.
Her wig looks unkempt though (but not as much as Fran’s).
Please treat this as constuctive criticism; I’ll gladly accept any reactions to my comment, but please try to make them as literate as possible; my IQ does not need to drop any more points.
