The world of Guild Wars 2 will be ravaged by at least five colossal Ancient Dragons, three of whom can be seen slumbering in Eye of the North. One of my guildies spotted an Ancient Dragon encased in the frozen Drakkar Lake. I’d crossed Drakkar Lake during the Eye of the North preview weekend, but I was too busy fighting to look beneath my feet. Naturally, I had to see the creature for myself. After clearing the lake of monsters, this is what I saw.

I use a GeForce 8 series video card, so heavy ice refraction effects obscure the view at obtuse angles. On a lame video card, however, the ice is as clear as glass at any angle. That’s how this guy was able to capture the whole creature in one screen.

As you can see in the next image, the creature’s outline is clearly visible on the overhead world map.

Congratulations to ArenaNet on creating their very own Loch Ness monster. Little Gwen captured players’ imaginations in Prophecies, setting the stage for her teenage return in Eye of the North. Now these big-ass dragons will keep players wondering about them until Guild Wars 2. I can’t wait to face this thing. In fact, I want to wake it up now and see what happens.
