Unlocked HTC G1, Blackberry Bold, and Blackberry Storm

I was strolling along SM Megamall Cyberzone yesterday when I came across a store selling unlocked HTC G1 (the first Google Android phone), Blackberry Bold, and Blackberry Storm handsets. Apparently, they were purchased with plans in the States, unlocked from their respective carriers, and brought over to the Philippines. Fortunately for all of us, unlocking cellphones is exempt from DRM anticircumvention laws, and thus perfectly legal. T-Mobile Presells 1.5 Million G1s

T-Mobile G1

The HTC T-Mobile G1’s hardware isn’t earth-shattering, but its software could be. At least, that’s what preorder figures show. The first phone to run Google’s Android mobile operating system has sold out 1.5 million units, over a week before it hits the streets.

This just goes to show that people can look beyond shiny casings and onto open platforms. Take that, iPhone.
