Happy 21st Birthday, Alodia!

Whenever I doubt that the Web upsets the oppressive order of old media, whenever I doubt that the new media landscape gives a powerful voice to even the oddest of oddballs, whenever I doubt that one person can become a media entity unto herself, whenever I doubt that a nerd can become a star, whenever I doubt that today’s geeky is tomorrow’s cool, I look at this girl’s work and smile with renewed faith. Happy twenty-first birthday to Filipina gamer-blogger-cosplayer idol Alodia Gosiengfiao.

When Filipina gamer-blogger-cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao was mobbed by fans at ToyCon 2008, vastly overshadowing Filipina TV actress Marian Rivera at the event, I speculated that an AlodiaCon was not far off. It’s not impossible for bloggers to get whole conventions centered around themselves and their interests.
