Pitching Tip for Models: Ride a Purple Cow

There’s a million hot naked chicks on the Internet. There’s a difference between those girls and me. Those chicks don’t talk back to you. — Tila Tequila, Queen of MySpace.

I’ve been getting a lot of email pitches from young Filipina models hoping to be featured in the Babes category of this blog. Let me give you a tip, girls: it takes more than regular print and ramp model credentials to get my readers’ attention. Traditional aspiring models are a dime a dozen. You need to do something remarkable, in the sense that it’s worth making a remark about. Ride a purple cow, if you will.

You could self-publish like UrFame, or write intelligent blog posts like Anna Bayle, or unleash your inner geek like Alodia Gosiengfiao, or become a YouTube Director like Happy Slip, or become queen of Philippine cosplay like Jerry Polence. Just make sure you come to me with something more remarkable than a bunch of magazine covers.

Haruhi Licensed for North America

One of the smartest, most virally marketable anime ever made, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, will soon hit North American shores via Kadokawa Pictures USA and Bandai Entertainment. As I’ve mentioned before, the high-sci-fi-inspired hijinks of Haruhi and friends are purposedesigned for the age of the mashup.

The zany tone of this promo video suggests translators will stay true to the spirit of the source material — essential for a global product American fans have been incessantly dissecting almost since it premiered in Japan earlier this year. North American bloggers and remixers, even those not normally into anime, will love this. Click here to continue reading “Haruhi Licensed for North America”…
