Amazing Bionic Arm: i-LIMB

iPhone? iPod? Bah. Mere children’s toys. They’re nothing compared to the i-LIMB, a $42,000 bionic arm you put on and throw a ball with in just two minutes. Heck, you can even write with it.

It doesn’t look like a factory robot, either. In fact, if you don’t look above the elbow, you might mistake it for a real hand, veins and all. The servos make robot sounds, but that’s actually kind of cool.

Nineteen-year-old Evan Reynolds is the second person in Britain to receive the device, which has also been fitted on wounded American soldiers. Time Magazine hails the i-LIMB as one of the top 50 inventions of 2008, while manufacturer Touch Bionics won the Limbless Association’s Prosthetic Product Innovation Award for 2008.

It’s not exactly Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber-wielding droid hand, but it’s definitely progress.

Wow. body science is progressing well. However I would give my arm up the flying car. THEN I can get one of these bionic arms!
