Dear Friendster Community and those reading this blog,

As you may have seen, Friendster.com has undergone maintenance at various times over the past few days. Friendsterâ€™s unscheduled downtime was due to a power outage at our outsourced data center in Santa Clara, California where Friendsterâ€™s servers are co-located along side approximately 50 other companies. As a result, Friendster, as well as a number of other online companies, experienced unscheduled and unavoidable downtime. At this time, Friendster is back online and our team is working quickly to restore everything back to normal.

Additionally, you may have experienced some inconsistencies with your friend count on Friendster. All of your friend connections and data stored on Friendster are in tact and will be corrected shortly. Itâ€™s simply taking some time for us to restore each user account as Friendster has over 85 million user accounts globally.

Lastly, if youâ€™ve received any on site messages or SMS text alerts regarding our downtime or your friend count, please disregard them as they were initiated by members of our community and do not contain accurate information about what happened.

Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

they should have more than just 1 data center and switch their traffic to a different one if one goes down. and they’re an international social networking site. i think it would be commonsense to put data centers in different continents. well, if they have cash for it i mean. ouch, they have to build their data cache again, that can be painful. maybe their databases will go down this time. i’m so mean to friendster.

Friendster says all friends lists will be restored. I say they should find a better data center and make their data cache less volatile.

me too, don’t think is power outage!
if so… that data center can close down. it is shame to operate as data center that they not even think / prepare power backup solutions like power generator, UPS, or…

MAYBE they (datacenter) didn’t pay the electric bill, and cut by the electric provider. then they need to make payment to the bill and take them sometime to resume back the electric….

i don’t think it’s an outage. i think they released something big, and now there are bugs, they can’t even compute the friend’s list correctly. i don’t believe an outage can cause the incorrect friend list. i logged on to my college org account. it’s strange that it didn’t load for firefox for a while, and on ie it had a maintainance page up.

Obviously, a lot of Pinoys care about Friendster. Heck, even my schoolmates were going nuts as to when the site will be back to normal.
