Level Up Live: Now Actually Live!

Tags: | | | | |

Level Up Live 2008Every year since 2006, Philippine game publisher Level Up holds a big offline event they call Level Up Live. I scoffed at its first iteration. The thing came out one year after Microsoft’s Live brand, making it look like an offline poser attempt to emulate online cool by slapping on a Web 2.0 buzzword. I figured it would go the way of E3 — bloated and irrelevant fluff doomed to collapse.

Level Up Live 2007, however, surprised me by offering something more than fluff. They actually showed off Ragnarok 2. They held a machinima contest that was actually bloggable. They gave us grown-up Filipino gamers something worth talking about. For the first time ever, I regretted not attending a Level Up event.

I hope this trend continues with Level Up Live 2008 this weekend. At least now Philippine tech media legend Joey Alarilla will officially liveblog the thing. At least now Level Up Live is actually live. At least now this offline event will produce online content with which to promote online games. ‘Cuz, y’know, Level Up is an online game publisher.

No, Jepoy, our princess is in another castle.

I’ve been terribly busy lately, Carlo, but I’ll try to pass by. If last year’s event was any indication, I’m sure you guys will have interesting stuff for us grown-up gamers to see. :)
