Alodia Mobbed at ToyCon

Alodia at ToyCon

Just like at M3Con 2008 two weeks before, Filipina cosplayer Alodia Gosiengfiao was mobbed at ToyCon 2008.

Alodia Signs Autographs at ToyCon

Between photo sessions as a sword-wielding schoolgirl, Alodia signed autographs for fans. The pen is mightier than the sword; Alodia wields both.

Aside from her usual prints, she’s added something new to her merchandising: bookmarks. Wonder when the photobooks and DVDs come out.

Alodia Bookmark

Alodia now bookmarks my copy of Clay Shirky’s Here Comes Everybody. Awesome read, by the way; I recommend it to all bloggers. How fitting that Alodia herself is turning problogger soon.

Someone at ToyCon actually asked me why this was all happening. I guess becoming a media entity unto yourself, becoming a star outside the showbiz machine, is still a strange concept to most Filipinos.

  2. Haha i actually saw you at the toy-con yesterday, with Alodia’s dad or something, I didn’t see her as i-no but she totally rocked everyone out with her schoolgirl outfit.

  4. Grabe. She’s really turning into something big. I saw how she was mobbed at Toy Con. ^^;;

Some people were also asking me about the same thing ^_^ How Alodia did it… How come she’s a star outside showbiz… hehe :p

  6. ehehehe..as promised.. no bouncing bouncers

  7. Hell yeah. The other fanboys were even staring at me as I gave her the “gift” my crew had worked hard for, and was given about 3 to 5 “Fuck You” signs as soon as I left. Those degenerate sons-of-whores got jealous, for me, because I had the guts to approach her, even more so talk and give her the “gift”.

  8. Anon: Yeah, Ed’s a cool guy. He’s very proud of his daughter’s independent spirit.

Carlo: Awesome insight on your blog:

I don’t think she can make it if she’ll try to cross over to doing local movies and shows with ABS-CBN or GMA TV.

Philippine showbiz does not know how to address niches, much less handle niche celebrities. They would not know how to handle someone like Alodia. She’s the Filipina Shocotan.

JC: “How does she do it?” Now that’s the question I hear a lot from Filipina cosplayers. Unfortunately, they have to unlearn a lot of mass media mindsets before they understand the answer.

Az: That’s okay. Anyone foolish enough to harass Alodia would have been lynched by the mob.

Alfred: You gave her three shiny new PSP games! Props to you and your crew for dedication! Alodia may not have a mass audience, but she certainly has an engaged audience.

  9. We’re just a two-man crew, my partner and best friend, Stephen Ramos, the one who imitated Hitler on our DeviantArt page. He worked on Garage R during vacation, while I worked on an underground delivery service (sorry, can’t name it) and raced several “Last Signal” races at night just to put up the cash. Shit, this reminds me of my high-school days which I had to restrain myself from fighting for 10 days just to keep myself in school.

  10. she’s really talented (if she actually makes all those costumes by herself), possibly quite rich (to afford those shitz and have the time to do it), and very pretty. how could she possibly not make it?

  11. I have to agree on that one. She’s a smart, talented, drop-dead gorgeous girl, who, I’m not ashamed to admit, stole my heart at first sight, or OUR (me and my best friend’s, actually) hearts.

  12. i agree with cigarette-girl:

hahahaaha! why not read my comment in this video

    ………………………………
she’s just rich.rich yet she honestly want the fame.i don’t think she’s humble enough.
i am not hater nor a fan. i criticize and saw many cosplays, but the cosplays of alodia were only the same as those with rich and ordinary cosplayers.
i frankly hate the host of The Beat for saying such words, “CHAMPION COSPLAYER” “to a whole new level”…f^ck, the host is going nuts…

  13. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. If you have the resources to express yourself, you should use those resources to the fullest to express yourself to the fullest. 8)

  14. phone ko un!! ung ericson na black!! hahahaha!!

  15. Nice one, J. Ok kaya yung Ericson na phones.

  16. By the way, guys, ever heard of a legendary gang member from Taytay, aliased as Demonyong XIII (Demonyong Trese)? I received reports that this guy is on Alodia’s trail. Ever heard of what happens to his victims?

  17. I called you as soon I saw your comment, Alfred. If this becomes any serious cause for concern, I trust you’ll let Edjie know.

In the meantime, let’s not get paranoid. Alodia’s ToyCon report has some awesome pictures. She even thanked you for the PSP games. :)

  18. Sure thing, Sir Mike. I phoned a contact which will let me go to where he is now, and talk to the guy. Seems my former boss needs me tonight as well, as far as El Espada, my contact, told me. I just wish he’ll keep our small chat quick and easy, and won’t be settled the old way.

  19. Got your message, Alfred. Good to hear your meeting went well, and good to hear there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. :)

  20. hey was up i miss this thing’s and toycon,,and also i miss my crush aloida hehe joke more come keep up the good work godbless us,

  21. @critic og

Why? What’s wrong with “Champion Cosplayer”?

  22. Now, if she’ll move on from being a gamer/cosplayer idol and add “gravure idol” to her resume, then I could safely say that my geek life would now be complete.

  23. Honestly, Sir Mike, I’ve been at the Toycon last June 14. What an amazing experience! :D

  24. [...] discovered Alodia through one of his readers who attended ToyCon 2008 in the Philippines, where Alodia was mobbed by fans. Hooray for the psychographic serendipity of the blogosphere. A global microbrand is [...]

    @the critic og 2008

Don’t hate the host, hate the writer, hate me because I wrote that. :) If you don’t know anything about Alodia’s contribution to local cosplaying, then you’re the one going nuts.

  26. *looks at Blog, Pipi at Bingi* AMF! ETO KA!!! *middle finger up*

  27. I agree alodia is just rich. She doesn’t make her costumes, yet she claims to (saw her quarrel with someone in dA about this >.<)

I lol-ed so hard coz her glol hats didn’t sell las toycon. She had the nerve to price them at Php900 each when it’s just hotglued and not even sewn.

  28. lol-ed so hard coz her glol hats didn’t sell las toycon.

At least she has the guts to experiment with her personal brand.

Some people don’t even have the guts to have a personal brand. They just leave nasty comments anonymously.

  29. This pic looks like someone just ate his middle finger after withdrawing it out from a pile of sh!t. :-)

  30. Close down your DA account, you’re just wasting bandwidth. You have a pathetic 1k pageviews. Haha!

  31. So, we’re just noobs. We’re just starting out, you shitheads. By the way, we’re also former notorious gang members, so if you fuck with us, we’ll destroy you.

  32. http://zip.4chan.org/cgl/res/1141065.html

YOU ARE AN IDIOT, WHETHER OR NOT YOU DELETE THIS.

  35. Read this and weep, picture-stealing toe-wart:

Great job filtering comments, “freedom of speech advocate”. Hypocrite. You should have been aborted.

  36. [...] American anime fans even bought signed Shocotan posters. If that situation sounds familiar to you, it’s because Filipino anime fans buy signed Alodia posters. [...]

  37. When Japanese cosplayer Shocotan appeared at Anime Expo 2008, fans bought her signed posters.

That scenario sounds strangely familiar. ;)

  38. Hehe, tama ka pareng Alfred. Even backing out of a fight issued over the Net isn’t cowardice, but practicality!

Sadly, retards use the anonymity that was given to them with the use of the Net to further their foolish acts.

Pity these people who deserve to be exterminated. Or maybe not.

  39. Alam mo, RAstaMONch, si Alfred, yung best friend ko, is the 2nd-Generation Demonyong XIII, and, even before he attained that “uber-awesometastic” (in Alfred’s language) title, he’s highly notorious already. Did you guys know he actually beat down 100 students on a single day during his first year in high school, and his opponents were seniors and college guys?

  40. Hehe, ganoon ba pareng Stephen? Tunay nga ang sinasabi mo; alamat si Demonyong XIII!

BTW, ayos deviantArt page niyo. In-add ko kayo, name ko dun rastamonch. :-)

  41. Remember, pareng RAstaMONch, na may subordinate na bata si Demonyong XIII? Si Alfred yun. He confessed that to me the day we became best friends.

  42. In the past, that is. He was formerly Demonyong XIII’s only pupil. But now, as the 2nd-Generation Demonyong XIII, I don’t know what he’d do with such power in the Filipino Underworld.

  43. That Alodia bookmark actually enhanced my appreciation of that book. Every few pages, I’d come across an idea Alodia herself is realizing on her own.

Indeed, the ToyCon mob is aptly described by the book’s title: Here Comes Everybody. ;)

  44. Wow, astig! Blown away ako dun!

  45. Yeah. Anyone who knew my former boss’ legend would be.

  46. Hehe, this can be the start of a wonderful alliance. :-)

  47. Still, I don’t know what to do with this crazy position. I’ve seen the First and how he runs this, but I don’t know how to run this on my style.

  48. Kaya mo iyan. Just believe in yourself and fight for what is good.

Pasensya na sa advice, baka hindi appropriate.

  49. Mejo appropriate naman. Pero… Fighting for what is good? I’d fight for the good. I’ll fight for the good. Basta, mas masarap ata yun.

  50. That’s the ticket!

  51. I didn’t consider the possibility na Demonyong XIII can be known for good deeds. Thanks for the idea, RAstaMONch!

  52. Halika na, Pareng Alfred at Pareng Stephen, sipain na natin yung mga loko dito!

  53. HI-YAAAAAAAAH!

  54. RIDER PUNCH!
