I think umobile would just like to know their applicants or future subscribers very well, in order for umobile to send personalized mobile ads based on their profile.

U Mobile uses your personal information to sell highly targeted advertising, for which they can charge advertisers a very high premium.

Despite that, they give you only a penny per ad.

We are in the philippines, where economic status and cost of living is VERY different from other first world countries such as in europe specifically in UK.

Actually, I computed the value of Blyk's ad-supported services at Philippine rates.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I would have to say that you did the math correctly but there's something WRONG with the logic of your point. A bias analysis I would have to say.

We are in the philippines, where economic status and cost of living is VERY different from other first world countries such as in europe specifically in UK. - WHICH BASICALLY SUMS IT ALL.

Statements like this, coming from a "Vice-President for Online Services of the Philippine Internet Commerce Society blah blah blah" (if this truly exist) should understand the basis and logic of this comparison.

Pity you, im guessing you are not their target market. Dont be bitter about it.

I agree with sunday!

As long as umobile subscribers will get FREE load, freebies and other rewards like attending their party! WHY NOT! AND I GOT MY umobile SIM- FREE!

Besides, im sure umobile will send mobile ad messages that i like and can relate to, so NO FUSS on their application even if its too long. I think umobile would just like to know their applicants or future subscribers very well, in order for umobile to send personalized mobile ads based on their profile.

Now we're talking about personal touch!

but as of my research the network has a invite-only users policy.

And the page to invite people has mysteriously vanished. :P

I’m seeing something similar happening eventually — for a specific niche market that can … “tolerate” ads in exchange of load.

People with a lot of free time on their hands, I would wager. ;)

nice analysis there, mike ;-) . The comparison to a good benchmark is helpful. Nice logo too!

I'm confident umobile has a market out there. and given enough time, umobile will help change the philippine telecom industry for the better.

Remember how Sun was lambasted at the start for poor service. And people thought Sun wouldn't fly? Well, it was Sun that compelled Globe/Smart to start offering their unlimited text/calls services.

I'm seeing something similar happening eventually -- for a specific niche market that can ... "tolerate" ads in exchange of load.

Well, 50 centavos credited per targeted ad received is better than zilch from SPAMs received from that darn China-something bank that solicits loans, or from SMS SPAMS received from certain multi-national banks that offers "double your reward points", or from scamsters who solicits "pasa load" because its their last message and they "need to talk to you.

The fact that U Mobile needs 23 ad views raises questions about managing their services. What the hell is causing them to have an absurd amount of ad views anyway?
