Progress and Tyranny

So I was invited to three parties tonight — one by the Philippine Internet Commerce Society in Ortigas, one by b5media at the Mall of Asia, and one by PLDT Business Solutions at the Fort. You know the IT industry is booming when you have three tech parties on a Thursday night.

I’m a vice-president of PICS, so I went to our party first. As CICT Chairman Rey Chua presented his bullish outlook for the industry, someone from the prosecutor’s office kindly informed us that we all had to go home before Gloria’s new midnight curfew.

Nothing like a taste of tyranny to dull the taste of progress.

The other two parties were in other parts of the city; between the rains and the traffic and the checkpoints, I couldn’t possibly attend either and still beat the curfew. On my way home, I got stuck in traffic near the EDSA shrine, where I served as stage marshal for EDSA II.

Look what that got us. We do stupid things in our youth.

I thought I was helping to bring about revolution seven years ago. As I’ve watched more and more smart Filipinos empower themselves in a disintermediated millennium — from pioneering veterans like Janette Toral to hot superstars like Abe Olandres to promising ingenues like Alodia Gosiengfiao — I’ve come to realize that real revolutions come from ourselves, not from our leaders. Tonight, I saw the repercussions of a false revolution dampen celebrations of a real revolution. The past has a funny way of dragging down the future.

On behalf of PICS, I’d like to thank everyone who came to our party tonight despite the insane circumstances. Talking shop with you guys helped keep my mind off this stupid curfew, if only for a few hours.

sir mike, what trillanes did was stupid, but what the government did was WAY MORE STUPID. it is evidently an attempt by a government desperate to hold on to power. but the most stupid ones are us. why? we already know that there is something wrong with this government but we still chose to sit down down and watch those damn politicians make fools of us and get richer from our taxes. we only make fuss about it when its in the news, after that we shut up and just say “bahala cla sa buhay nila”. someone here said that we ourselves should change what’s wrong. so why the hell are we still not doing anything!?! for some of my fellow posters, we did battle, and won, against that menace called zaido (though some may think of it as nonsense). maybe its time we face a greater battle ridding our beloved country of this corrupt arroyo government. who knows, we might also win here. what do you say, sir mike?

by the way, if u find this post a little too progressive, its fine with me if u remove it. LITTLE SISTER might be really watching us.

Frankly, I feel that Trillanes and the other guys really deserve what happened to them. I show no sympathy to a Megalomaniac Jackass who endangered the lives of civilians, caused damage of public property and interrupted everyone’s usual work schedule TWICE!
FYI: One of the priests involved with this dude was said to have a sexual harrassment case filed against him. Hmmm…first, women in church. Next, all women they could get once in power?
There’s no need to fear of Little Sister, only Power-hungry megalomaniacs fear her.

Actually, Metal, this government trashed the Pen and imposed the curfew.

Other than that, yes, Trillanes is being a sloppy little irritant — hardly a revolutionary.

sir mike, what trillanes did was stupid, but what the government did was WAY MORE STUPID.

The sad part, Flame, is how this government expects us to swallow such stupidity.
