PayPal Robbed Me

This morning, I tried adding a new MasterCard debit card to my PayPal account. PayPal rejected the card — ten times. Unbeknownst to me, and as my bank would inform me later this morning, PayPal charged that same card PhP 45.16 each time. I lost PhP 451.60 (roughly $10) to PayPal even though their site repeatedly “rejected” my new debit card. If they rejected it, why did they keep successfully charging it?
PayPal’s longtime monopoly on online payment has made them both arrogant and complacent. I am only too happy to watch their monopoly fall in the face of big new competitors like Google Checkout and Amazon FPS.
I’ve pulled all my credit cards out of my PayPal account. I am never doing business with PayPal again.
Update, August 14, 9:32 AM GMT+8: PayPal just emailed. They promise to remove the charges in a few days. Let’s wait and see if they make good on that promise.

Mike,
When you add a card to an account, PayPal needs to make sure that it is valid–it asks your card company in the background. In order to do that, it is typical to run a temporary $1 authorization; the bank returns an answer on things like address, expiration number, etc. That’s what happened here.
The $1 authorizations will drop off automatically. You can call your bank for more information.

What mike here was saying is that the card was rejected, in other words it was not pending verification.
This just shows how much PayPal sees the Philippine e-Market as trash.
now this is damn useful for me. No longer will I be a slave whore for Paypal.
people on ebay have caught on to the scam of buying getting the item then saying it has not turned up what really gets me mad is that paypal always take there side if paypal want to gauarantee scamers thay should do it out there own pockets not ours
yer
LOL STUPENDOUS!
Though you apparent frustration regarding the adverse side effect of your cards rejection and its incurred charges are understandable, I cant help by laugh as this has been a common reaction.
I happen to work for PayPal and the process of charging a card is a normal process. For any gateway to properly verify the card whether it be on the internet or at a store, they would have to submit a temporary charge to receive a response from the card’s issuer.
Every attempt to verify the cards info will result in a respective charge. The only catch in this situation is that PayPal will run it in US dollars hence the amount that was charged.
Before we go ahead and let our emotions go, why don’t we take time to understand and educate ourselves about the things that happen. Another pet peeve is the facts that bank aren’t really forth coming in explaining to their clients their functionality which then eventually leads up to other to do it for them
heres what i think about paypal they will never let take us dollar out of there country you must have to give it back to them just by purchasing something online i have had that experience before i still have 19$ on my account and decided not to continue with paypal instead i use alert pay its more convinient way you can purchase things even if you are not verified as long that you have a balance in your account
