Super Twins Director Denies Sailormoon Ripoff
Dominic Zapata, director of GMA’s Sailormoon ripoff Super Twins, deserves a medal from me. People like him accelerate the fall of Philippine TV, much to my delight as a Filipino YouTuber.
Prior to the start of series, many have been pointing out that Super Twins is a rip-off of anime series such as Sailor Moon and Amazing Twins. The show’s director, Dominic Zapata, cleared things out by saying, “If you find similarities, it is outright coincidental. Hindi po ako nakakapanood ng Sailor Moon and Amazing Twins.”
He sure “cleared things out”, alright — like a hot stinking fart clears out a room. Oh, and Amazing Twins is a live-action Mandarin series, not a Japanese anime.
“Sabi ng lawyer, you shouldn’t have access to these things. It’s not something na nagawa na dati-[it has] a new story, nice drama and solid characters.”
So a Philippine TV director needs a lawyer to assure him he “shouldn’t have access” to Sailormoon, one of the most popular anime in Philippine TV history? I don’t know who’s dumber: the director or the lawyer.
I hope these Philippine TV dinosaurs never learn that they can’t lie to a connected population. That way, their constant bumbling will provide us hours of amusement before the growth of the Philippine Internet crushes them.

Yep. With the picture side by side, one CANNOT deny the similarities. Its creepy like that.
You want to know what’s creepy? Its creepy that the owner of this blog actually has time to write about things that are idiotic. You’re a VP? Of what? Blogsites and YouTube? Cmon, if you had any brain mass between your ears, you would be writing about more intellectual matters.
Having said that, its not right to criticize other people just because they’re doing their job. Look at the bigger picture. Super Twins is not handled by one single person. The director is under so many people, bosses and creative heads. The costume is similar, so what? Big frigging deal. There are so many other local shows that are influenced by globalization, why not write about that.
You want the network to fire Dominic Zapata? Why don’t you stage a rally outside GMA and let’s see if they even give you the time of day. Or better yet, if you think you’re so damn good, why don’t you try directing a TV series and lets see if you can even make it rate. Thing is Mr. Know-it-all, GMA 7 became the #1 network thanks to Mulawin. Darna, Sugo and Captain Barbell have been #1 shows, even Super Twins is raking in the ratings for the network. And who directed all those #1 shows?
Isn’t it even gay that you’re irked by Super Twins? You gave your opinion, I’m just giving mine.
I didn’t know it was Mr. Zapata’s job to lie.
it would be fun to see a lawsuit against any of the local stations that plagiarizes other shows. It’s a bad thing to wish for, but that would definitely teach them
>sigh
Um…I don’t think Asian treasures is a rip-off of Indiana Jones, nor Tomb Raider. It just so happens to be that way because the initial trailer showed Angel in a Tomb Raider outfit and Robin in an Indiana Jones outfit. Besides, Angel and Robin are always wearing different outfits through out the series. The story, in my opinion, stands on its own. Maybe it was also inspired by National Treasure. But what the heck, many shows are often inspired by “insert tv/movie/anime/book here” Look at Walang Kapalit. I’m dead sure that the plot is just like the one in the anime Marmalade Boy. Step-brother and step-sister fall in love and travel the path of forbidden love.
