Filipinos Still Clueless on Technopreneurship

Dondi Mapa used to say Filipinos need IT market education. While Filipinos are natural adopters of social media, we have a lot of work to do before becoming a race of digital prosumers.

Lauro Vives asks people on the street about technopreneurship. Conclusion: most have no fucking clue. These are the people who need Joey Alarilla’s book.

Hello Mike. I’m curious. How would you define technopreneurship?

  2. Mike Abundo says:

    Mark: Entrepreneurship through technology. :)

  3. Mark Maglana says:

That’s similar to how I would define it.

I do, however, make a slight distinction between entrepreneurship by delivering a hi-tech product, and entrepreneurship by using a hi-tech product. I believe it’s important for us to, at some (perhaps distant) point in time, shift from being “hi-tech driven” to “drivers of hi-tech”. When exactly that should happen, I do not know yet.

hi. ive been conducting a study on this for my thesis. i would just like to share what i know about it. technopreneurship for me is all about innovation of products and or processes that are pushed to the marketplace. the problem with the philippines is that we are technology-adopters. though we have innovative technologies, these are not used economically due to the weak collaboration of business management and technical knowledge and skills, poor technology commercialization policies, and lack of information and motivation to engage in technopreneurship. thus, this concept must be emphasized and promoted because the country will be left out in terms of competitiveness in the global market. :)
